Meconopsis Cambrica

In Wales this poppy is considered a wild flower, even a weed by some pedantic gardeners as it pleases itself for where it grows and appears; I love this self-directed and random characteristic. When you take a packet and scatter the seeds (they like damp crevices between stones) it would be interesting to know if the seeds successfully germinate and flower in your garden.  In return I would love to hear back from you the following year with any news and photos.

In France the ubiquitous wild poppy is red and made famous in many Impressionist period paintings. I certainly do not want to overtake this indigenous emblem; I am interested in whether some people will take the opportunity of growing the yellow poppy. This subtle dilemma has some analogy to the migration of people. The Human Nature exhibition spans the date of the potential British exit from Europe (this text significantly written on the 31st August 2019, 2 months before the dreaded date). I love the freedom of movement that being part of the European Union offers, the ease to travel, make cultural, personal and trading partnerships with neighbours that are geographically close is something I value. For some, being ‘open’ and inclusive has become a moral dilemma and the innocent ‘yellow’ poppy could resonate this significance.
